Translational Research
The Charitable Society of Ladies Hospital Sírio-Libanês (HSL) is a century-old institution that promotes integrated activities in healthcare, education, and research.
In Translational Research, our mission is to transform knowledge into care. We prioritize applied research and the implementation of new technologies, with a focus on improving care and building a more just and inclusive healthcare system. Our research projects stem from the daily challenges faced in clinical practice, maximizing the application of results and the implementation of advancements within the healthcare system.
In 2008, our Board of Directors launched a strategic project to strengthen HSL as an academic institution. We improved our infrastructure, renovated our research laboratories, invested in new technologies, and increased administrative support to attract young researchers with an academic vision and international experience.
In late 2013, we launched our Academic Master's and PhD Program in Health Sciences and our Scientific Initiation Program. In 2021, we completed the pathway for training new researchers with the creation of our Post-Doctoral Program.
As a result, our scientific output has grown exponentially in both quantity and quality, rising from 38 articles in 2008 (the year the Research Directorate was created) to 371 in 2023. Approximately 25% of our work is published in high-impact health journals (Top 10%), and our FWCI (Field-Weighted Citation Index) is 1.99, comparable to that of major international research centers such as the Cleveland Clinic (FWCI 2.03) and Mayo Clinic (FWCI 2.02).
We have a total of five multidisciplinary experimental research laboratories where research projects are developed in all our areas of focus: Oncology, Cardiology, Orthopedics, Geriatrics, and Neurology, in addition to cross-cutting areas like Surgery, Rehabilitation, Radiology, Intensive Care Medicine, Data Science, and Advanced Therapies.
The laboratories are multi-user and serve students (scientific initiation, master's, doctoral, post-doctoral) and researchers from our institution, as well as students and researchers from national and international universities and research centers.
